New Just Cause 3 patch fixes console performance issues

just cause newsSquare Enix is prepping a patch for Just Cause 3 which will bring the game up to version 1.02 and fix several performance issues which have been affecting the console versions.
The patch, which is expected to go live on all platforms this week, will drastically cut down the game’s loading times, and will also optimize online stats and add in several stability fixes.

Three specific issues will also be corrected once the patch is live: the bug which sometimes causes vehicles to disappear at the beginning of a challenge, and the problems which sometimes occur if the PC version’s screen is resized or the game window is closed before the game fully starts up.

The patch notes, which you can read here, also contain some interesting tidbits related to the game design choices made by developer Avalanche Studios, explaining why you can’t crouch or sprint in the game, and that you can in fact skip cutscenes by holding down a certain button (the “B” button on Xbox for example) or pause the game and select the “Skip Cutscene” option.

The patch is expected to deploy for the PC version of Just Cause 3 on Friday, December 18, and on consoles sometime before then.

Bethesda expands to Montreal

bethesda news

Bethesda has had a big year, and between Fallout 4, The Elder Scrolls Online, and Dishonored 2 they have projects and launches popping up left and right. But before 2015 comes to a final curtain they’ve got one more trick up their sleeve. It’s a whole new development studio in Montreal, chock full of talent ready to continue Bethesda’s roll into the years ahead.

A blog post on their official site quoted Executive Producer Todd Howard: “We’ve worked with some very talented developers in Montreal for a long time, and decided it was time to open a studio there. It’s exciting to think about the new games we’ll be building together.”

Yves Lachance is slated to step up as Studio Director for the Montreal branch, Lachance is a veteran of the industry and worked previously as the Studio Head for Behaviour Interactive’s Montreal office. You might also remember him from his part in launching Fallout Shelter, Bethesda’s incredibly successful first venture into mobile gaming.

Lachance himself is ready to get the gears moving, stating in Bethesda’s blog post: “Our collaboration with Bethesda Game Studios has been an exhilarating and memorable journey already. We are thrilled to be launching the studio in Montreal and contributing our city’s great game-making talent to the kind of games that Bethesda Game Studios is known for.”

The new studio already has an established a team of 40 developers across multiple platforms to help push Bethesda’s core IPs forward. It’s unclear whether this new branch of the well-loved gaming studio is fated to dive into their own brand of new projects or help lighten the workload of Bethesda’s core teams in Maryland, but it’s an exciting prospect for fans of the studio either way.
